Funding & Skills Building

The School-Community Health Alliance of Michigan (SCHA-MI) is dedicated to strengthening school-based and school-linked health care across the state. To further support Child & Adolescent Health Centers (CAHCs), we are excited to offer funding and skills-building opportunities designed to enhance community impact, empower youth, and develop strong leadership within the field.

Community & Support Services Mini-Grant

Congratulations to the selected proposals for Community & Support Services Mini-Grants
  1. Authority Health
  2. Health Department of Northwest Michigan-Vaping Education – 12 full-time school nurses will provide vaping education across 14 districts through wellness and school-based nursing programs.
  3. Health Department of Northwest Michigan- Gaylord Blue Devil Wellness Cetner – Decreasing hygiene barriers at Gaylord Middle School by providing students with free hygiene items including pads, tampons, underwear, deodorants, toothbrushes, and toothpaste.
  4. LMAS District Health Department-CAMP – Providing healthy snacks to students throughout the school day at CAMP
  5. LMAS District Health Department - SAINTS– Establishing a laundry, hygiene, and clothing closet for students at SAINTS Health Center.
  6. Mott Children's Health Center
  7. Sterling Area Health Center – Launching Rest Well: Beds for Rural Kids, an initiative to ensure children and youth have safe beds.
  8. Benton Harbor- Intercare – Host a monthly eye doctor visit to provide comprehensive eye exams for students, particularly those who failed their screening exams and were referred for follow-up.
  9. Catherine’s Health Center – Distributing personal hygiene kits to all students at Godfrey Elementary School.
  10. Henry Ford Health Center – Enhancing services at the Ruth Ellis Center to support homeless and housing-insecure youth
  11. Henry Ford Health Center- Fitzgerald Provide additional hygiene and school supple resources to students, and streamline referrals for support services.
  12. Van Buren Community Mental Health – The Bangor Health Center will collaborate with the CAC/YAC, school personnel, and other community agencies to host a seasonal/quarterly event.

Youth Advisory Council Mini-Grant

Congratulations to the selected proposals for our Youth Advisory Council Mini-Grants—your inspiring, youth-led projects are helping to advance health equity and create lasting impact in communities across Michigan

  1. Cherry Hill/Grand Rapids Public Schools – Establishing a new YAC with youth-led subcommittees
    to drive engagement and promote SBHC services.
  2. Kalamazoo County Health & Human Services – Expanding YAC membership and increasing
    visibility through outreach materials and school events to better connect students.
  3. InterCare School-Based Clinic – Boosting YAC participation by addressing barriers such as
    transportation and scheduling; providing incentives like gift cards, meals, and apparel.
  4. LMAS District Health Department – Supporting youth leadership training and reviving a
    community fall carnival to promote health and family-friendly engagement.
  5. Eaton Regional Education Service Agency – Implementing a comprehensive strategy including a
    hygiene closet, guest incentives, and school event outreach to enhance SBHC visibility and grow
    YAC leadership.
  6. MidMichigan Health Services – Expanding YAC membership and hosting regular meetings, health
    fairs, and events featuring educational displays.
  7. Corner Health Center – Hosting a youth-led conference on substance use prevention, featuring
    speakers, Narcan training, peer-led panels, and educational materials.
  8. Henry Ford Health – Organizing summer planning sessions and student-led back-to-school
    promotions, consent form drives, and marketing efforts to boost SBHC awareness.
  9. Sterling Area Health Center – Coordinating a one-day YAC Leadership Summit to strengthen
    advocacy, teamwork, and problem-solving skills across five local sites.
  10. Northwest Michigan Health Services, Inc. – Launching a youth wellness initiative with fitness
    trackers and nutritional counseling to improve student health literacy and outcomes.
  11. Pontiac High School CAHC – Creating a youth-led health education and advocacy program
    featuring leadership training, peer-designed campaigns, and culminating in Peer Health Advocacy
    Day.
