CAHC Billing Toolkit

Welcome to the 2025 Child and Adolescent Health Center Billing Toolkit, developed by the School-Community Health Alliance of Michigan (SCHA-MI). This resource was created to support school-based and school-linked health centers across Michigan in strengthening their billing processes, improving financial sustainability, and ultimately enhancing access to care for children and adolescents.

Child and Asolescent Health Center Billing Toolkit

Whether you're a provider, billing specialist, administrator, or program partner, this toolkit offers a practical guide to understanding and implementing effective billing practices. It includes clear explanations of revenue cycle management, Medicaid and insurance billing, documentation and coding standards, and strategies for overcoming common challenges in school-based healthcare billing.

We encourage you to use this toolkit as a reference—whether you need a quick guide to CPT codes, help with patient eligibility verification, or insights into payer credentialing. Each section is designed to stand alone, but together they provide a full picture of what it takes to run an efficient, compliant, and sustainable billing operation in the unique setting of school-based health.

We’re grateful to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and our statewide partners who contributed to this effort. Your commitment to equitable, accessible care for youth makes this work possible.
