Overweight and Obesity: A Training for the CAHC Program
The Michigan Department of Community Health (Child & Adolescent Health Center Program & the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Control, Cardiovascular Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity Section), the School-Community Health Alliance of Michigan, the Michigan State Medical Society, and the Michigan Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics co-hosted a training for Child and Adolescent Health Centers to enhance and update your practice with overweight and obese youth including the use of the MCIR BMI Growth Module.
Participants were given an overview of the obesity problem in Michigan, current research on the causation of overweight and obesity in youth, highlights of evidenced based practices for school based/linked health centers, and demonstration of the MCIR BMI Growth Module including evidenced based support tools.

MDCH Coordinators' Meeting and SCHA-MI Annual Meeting

This year the MDCH Coordinators' Meeting and the SCHA-MI Annual Meeting and Training were combined to form a two-day conference.
MDCH Coordinators' Meeting: The first day, hosted by MDCH, was a grant requirement for all state-funded centers and programs to attend. Important program updates were provided.
SCHA-MI Annual Meeting - Heroes of Health Care: On October 28, 2011, SCHA-MI hosted a day conference complete with eight workshop sessions covering the following tracks: Clinical, Front Office/Medical Assistants, Administrative, and Youth and Parent Engagement. View the agenda.

Grant Writing Workshops
April 6 and May 6, 2011 - Gaylord and Ann Arbor, MI
These workshops covered three sessions: Grant Writing 101, Writing Foundation Grant Proposals, and Grant Writing for State and Federal Funds.
